OneOdio Pro – 10 studio headphones
The OneOdio Pro – 10 studio headphones are quite different to most other headphones I’ve owned over the years.
It’s not often in the world of audio technology that something comes along that is not only different but good.
Especially in the world of headphones. On the surface, there doesn’t seem to be much that can be altered with headphones let alone improved on. There is a new kid on the block in the world of headphones and that kid is OneOdio.
OneOdio headphones
I first became aware of OneOdio when reading a copy of Sound on Sound.
There was a review of the OneOdio Monitor – 60. I’ve actually ordered a pair of the Monitor – 60s partly on the strength of this review and partly because of how good the OneOdio Pro – 10 headphones that I bought were.
I wanted the OneOdio Monitor 60 headphones, but I managed to order a pair with a six-week delivery time. While waiting for these to be delivered I decided to buy the Pro – 10 as well and give them I whirl while waiting for the Monitor – 60s to arrive.
I’ll do a full review of the Monitor-60 when I get hold of them (and I’ve tried them for a few weeks)
What I like about the OneOdio Pro – 10 headphones
Firstly, the thing you notice about the Pro-10 is that they are closed back.
OneOdio calls them over ear headphones. They use 50mm neodymium drivers.
The Pro-10s are very much in keeping with the style of the other closed-back headphones in the range. I think you’d find it hard to see much difference between their top and bottom-of-the-range models. This makes me think that it won’t be difficult to get spare parts like ear pads and the headband, which you can usually replace fairly easily.
While on the subject of replacing parts, you’ll also notice the lead and plug arrangement.
I haven’t seen anything else like this in the headphone world before (and I’ve seen and owned a lot of pairs over the years.) These headphones have got two sockets on them. One on the left and one on the right. One is 3.5mm and the other is 6.35mm. You also get a couple of different leads with the headphones.
A 3.5mm to 3.5mm stereo 1.2 metre lead which contains a microphone, and a 3.5 to 6.35mm 2-3 meter lead. Both of these leads have gold-plated plugs. You might be ahead of the game here before I tell you, but that means you don’t need any adapters. You can plug these headphones directly into a 3.5mm or 6.35mm socket.
Also, because you connect to one side of the headset, you don’t have that annoying “y” lead that connects to both sides. It always seems to get in the way and get caught on something.
The specification states that these are 32 ohms impedance with a sensitivity of 110dB +-3dB.
The build quality of the OneOdio Pro – 10
On first impression, these look well put together. They are large and solid and just have that “feel” about them.
Apart from the two leads that I’ve mentioned, you also get a bag to keep the headphones in. I know it’s nothing to get too excited about, but it just makes you think that this is a much more expensive product than what you’ve paid for them.
They also fold down to a much smaller size. This is the standard way where the cups fold back on themself. It really doesn’t make much difference to me as they will stay out with my recording setup, but if you need to fold them away for storage, it’s easy to do. They will then fit in the storage bag.
Replacing the lead
Apart from the convenience, it also makes it extremely easy to change a lead if it gets damaged.
The 3.5mm to 6.5mm leads are common things to get hold of and it’s also easy enough to make your own custom leads if you want to. I’ve seen headphones where you can unplug the lead before replacing it (the industry standard Beyer DT100 ) but not using the standard 3.5/6.35mm plug on each side.
For headphones of this price, this is a great feature. If you’ve had headphones for any length of time, you’ll know that the lead is the most fragile and easily broken part, even if you look after them well it will usually break at some point. Being able to just plug a new one in without opening the headphones up is really useful and prolongs the life of headphones.
What do the OneOdio Pro – 10 sound like?
This is the most important part of course. If the headphones sound poor it doesn’t matter about the features or what they cost. Well, you can relax these budget headphones sound really good.
It’s really difficult to describe how headphones, speakers or amplifiers sound, using words and I don’t do that poetic “The highs sound like an angel tickling your ears while the bass sounds like an elephant, playing the bass drum”
I can safely say I haven’t heard anything else at this price that sounds any better and I can’t really see anyone getting these and being disappointed with the sound (there’s always someone though!) When I receive my Monitor–60 headphones, I’ll try and do a direct comparison between the two and some sound tests.
What I don’t like about the OneOdio Pro – 10
I usually like to point out stuff that I don’t like or things that aren’t great. After all nothing perfect is it?
The trouble is I can’t find anything to complain about! That’s before you even consider the budget price! The left and right labels are on the inside of the ear pads, not on the outside. See I told you I was struggling to find anything wrong with them!
Final thoughts on the OneOdio Pro – 10 studio headphones
These are really good headphones. I’ve not seen or heard anything any better for the price. they are better than some pairs that I’ve spent considerably more on.
They are solid and closed back and feel like they should cost more. The lead thing with the sockets is such a good idea I can see it being copied. I’m seriously wondering what the OneOdio Monitor – 60s will be like if this is the budget model! I paid £27 for mine from Amazon and they were next day, before 1 pm, free delivery with Amazon Prime. I actually got them about 16 hours after ordering them!
These are also what I now consider to be the best headphones for recording vocals as they fulfil all the criteria that I need for the job.
